- Sale of radio sets increased because people had the desire to listen to music/advertisements
- Fewer newspapers due to the cost of publishing.
- More periodicals because they became of a higher value because they contained the most important news.
- With few job opportunities and less money, people were more selective on what they wanted to read. The positives were that without the jobs, people were able to debate about different issues with knowledge from their reading.
